>BIRTH to Underground Music<

Somewhere in a parallel universe I imagine Wax Poetic’s “Angels” playing as I flout towards the stars with my eyes closed feeling my skin tingle from the pure bliss of the melodies.

I became a fan of Wax Poetic in 2016 when I first heard Angels. I started to play this in my slow flow yoga classes and my students loved it. The soothing tones of Norah Jones vocals on this track made everyone fall in love. Norah later left the group when she decided to go solo in 2002 with her song “Come Away With Me,” but continues to show up now and then joining Wax Poetic as a vocalist.

Wax Poetic is an New York based band who arrived to the scene in the early 2000s and has never left. llhan Ersahin who is the tenor saxophone and keys player in the group founded the band in 1997 where they quickly started jamming together in the NYC night life. The group currently is made up of six members including Sissy Clemens, Gabriel Gordon, Kenny Wollesen, Tina Kristina, Zeke Zima and Ersahin .

Ilhan wanted to create a group that infused his love for soulful tunes, jazz and pop and Wax Poetic is just that. Not only do they jam with six divine members, they also are not shy of collaborating with other artist to bring their visions of sound orgasms to life. Many collabs feature Saul Williams, N’dea Davenport, Jochen Rueckert,Paul Ogunsalo and many more.

All six of them bring something unique to the blend. The band is known for its drum and bass and dance elements that they cook up so perfectly. Angels is a futuristic jazz track that slips elements of deep house and ambient; where it can quickly become white noise or completely grab your attention and keep it there over and over again.

This track was released under Caramelle Recordings in 2003 and become one of their best most listened to songs. Wax Poetic is now with Atlantic and Nublu record labels which was started by Ilhan.

Wax Poetic doesn’t plan to stop producing music anytime soon and the best advise I can give you is to continue to listen and take in every ounce of what Wax has to offer.

Here is another one of my favorite tunes from Wax Poetic:

+Night Melodies+

Spooky Black “Without You”

One day my lover and I were chilling in the car before we embarked on one of our wild nights in the city of Detroit. He requested that he be the DJ for the night, of course I looked like “nothing can really top my choices,” but I handed him my phone with a smirk.

At first I was worried (he has wonderful taste in music – but he also likes Lil B haha.)

Anyway lol

What he turned on blew my mind  right away. The song sounded really familiar to my ear. I had previously heard this song chopped and screwed from one of my favorite DJ’s. I turned it up!

I am a super fan of slow mo, chopped and screwed and mystical music that takes me to cloud nine. This was the song of my dreams….well one of the songs of my dreams.

I looked in his eyes and you’ll know one why soon as you press play.

Ya’ll don’t need to know what happened next…

A little about Corbin Smidzik better known as Spooky Black.

Spooky has major r&b influences.  From Saint Paul, Minnesota he is not only killing the game solo but he also kills it as a member of the hip hop/r&b collective the Stand4rd. Spooky Black Soundcloud has put him on the map especially with the hit “Without You,” produced by him back in 2014. If your anything like me you were shocked when you heard his voice and then matched it with his face….but you get over that part pretty fast once your in the zone. He chops it up and literally leaves you playing his music fifty times in a row. He has a fan in me!

I love BIA.

I mean who the fuck wouldn’t!

She sliding through from Boston.

Puerto Rican swag, hard bars that match beats that go BANANAS.

BIA is signed to Pharrell’s label “i Am Other” and distributing through RCA Records.

She continues to influence the trap game effortlessly.

Take a listen especially to this “Gucci Comin Home”

Birth to Under(gro)und MUsic.

Melodiesinfonie is a hip guy from Switzerland in his twenties.

Personally I think he plays some of the most purest and amazing music I have ever heard.

Very versatile and isn’t afraid to make his tracks sound completely different than the next.

Showcasing his jazz influences along with choosing powerful voices to back up his beats he makes shit lit.

Meodiesinfonie also has his hip hop influences that shine in and out as he cuts and masters beats that quickly turn into classics.

Is it just me…or is he the shit?

Backini “Twenty Five”

Here I am again putting you on to another tune.

Backini comes to you with fresh downtempo beats to satisfy any creative beat lover. Sampling a lot of voices that are smooth and powerful and usually women.  He takes you on a relaxing ride of the past.

Backini reminds me a lot of one of my other favorites Portishead.

Be sure to check out more of his music and share some of your favorites.
